Overview

Yingqi Guan / Guan Guan is a contemporary jewellery designer, contemporary jewellery curator and sculpture artist living in London and Beijing. Her attempts are all established on eye (judge) / 爱 (Chinese character Love ài )/ I (exploration of self and identity) as a carrier of expression, and uses jewellery or sculptures as a medium to criticise, communicate, review, and judge this modern area. As for the majority, Yingqi Guan has held several art exhibitions in China, Italy, the Louvre Museum and London throughout the years. She studied at the Central Academy of Fine Art jewellery major, after graduation she attended the 2019 Master Goldsmiths project in the studio of international artist Kim Buck, which works towards preserving and renovating traditional handcraft and using auction earnings to support traditional handcraft folk artists. In 2022, she graduated from the Royal College of Art Jewellery and Metal master's degree and established her studio “eye爱I” in London by 2023. Even nowadays, in such an automated and mechanical time, she still takes on the challenge of using pure handcraft to create works. She is fascinated by traditional culture mingled with contemporary art forms; combining traditional craftsmanship with contemporary art forms is one of her obsessions, meanwhile exploring the possibility of merging traditional folk culture with contemporary narrative art. she has focused on the solid narrative background and diversified visual tension throughout her creations.
