'Design takes place inadvertently, among all sorts of other activities.' - Cees Braakman

    Cees Braakman (1917 - 1995)

    Dutch designer

Cees Braakman played a vital role in introducing the very first modern furniture line of Pastoe, cementing the position of the globally reputable brand of over a hundred years in the furniture design sector, at the same time reviving the post-war furniture industry in the Netherlands. Marked by remarkable functionality, clean lines and calculated proportion, his designs catered for the needs of the growing mass market and modern living. Braakman believed that production technique is an important factor of an original design. One of his most notable contributions to Dutch design was the Made-to-Measure series introduced in 1955; the flexible cabinet system allowed customers to assemble cabinets of their choice with various configurations and rooms for extension in the future.
