Overview
Forging the Wild | Liu Yangwen
Forging the Wild represents an unbending and rebellious spirit. It is a state of existence that strives to break free but yearns to grow, and a critical attitude that is cynical but striving to improve. It is a complex situation that is full of vitality and risks at the same time.

3812 Gallery is excited to represent Liu Yangwen, a young contemporary Chinese artist, and present his first-ever Hong Kong solo exhibition, Forging the Wild, featuring new works including The Blaze of Flowers, 18-3-22 and Forging the Wild. Liu Yangwen is a ‘Gen Z’ artist who explores the spirit of living and reality through creation. He adopts the use of sharp lines and bold colours to reinterpret everyday objects, breaking through traditional perceptions and boundaries, and constructing them with his own distinctive artistic language and form. The exhibition will debut from 10 November to 12 December 2022 at 3812 Gallery Hong Kong.

Liu Yangwen was born and based in Nanjing, China, in 1995. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Fine Arts School at Nanjing University of the Arts. Liu had his first solo exhibition Dazzling Flowers, Spinning Gazes in Beijing, 2021. His works have been exhibited in various exhibitions in Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art (Shanghai), Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, Masterpiece London Art Fair and 3812 Gallery.

Liu Yangwen’s oil paintings are mainly presented in cool tones and reconstructed zigzag lines of flowers and leaves, with a strong and distinct style. His paintings invite audiences to re-examine their conventional perceptions, and in the past two years, Liu has evolved to present his works in a more abstract style. The imagery of flowers gradually disappears, and more complicated lines appear, infusing the works with a unique dynamism with the combination of blue, black and white as well as irregular reconstructed lines.
