2011
Calvin Hui and Mark Peaker co-founded 3812 Contemporary Art Projects, establishing a 7,000 square foot cutting-edge contemporary art space in Wong Chuk Hang, with "Time and Memory" as the theme of their inaugural exhibition. 3812 quickly distinguished itself as one of Hong Kong's most dynamic contemporary art venues.
The name "3812" draws inspiration from the formidable challenges faced by the co-founders during the infamous La Vallée Blanche off-piste run atop the Aiguille du Midi in Chamonix in 2010. At an altitude of 3,812 metres, the treacherous arête ridge must be navigated with skill and bravery. This homage to overcoming obstacles and embracing new horizons reflects the ethos behind 3812 and its commitment to pioneering the presence of Chinese contemporary art in the global market.
In October, Hui joined Fine Art Asia as Co-Chairman and Director, focusing on expanding the content of modern and contemporary art, art and design, as well as international marketing for the art fair.
2012
Calvin Hui curated the “Italian Design Furniture Exhibition - From 20th Century to Eternity” for K11 Mall, marking it as the first of its kind in Hong Kong.
2013
Calvin Hui partnered with Adrian Cheng of New World Development to co-found the non-profit foundations Arts in Heritage Research and Sketch Hong Kong.
In June, Hui initiated and curated the Hong Kong Pavilion at Masterpiece London, subsequently bringing the project with the European Pavilion back to Fine Art Asia in Hong Kong in October.
2014
In May, Calvin Hui curated Asia’s first “La Biennale des Liones” at MGM Macau, a highlight of the Le French May arts festival. This event marked the beginning of a long-term collaboration between MGM Macau and 3812.
3812 proudly announced the representation of young talent Chloe Ho, debuting her exhibition “Forces of Nature: What Do You See” in its Hong Kong art space.
In September, 3812 partnered with Mr. Christopher Forbes to co-present Chloe Ho’s first solo exhibition in New York, titled “Under the Surface” at the Forbes Gallery.
2015
In November, 3812 opened its three-storey gallery in Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong, featuring Kim Robinson's solo exhibition "Evocateur."
In December, Calvin Hui founded Ink Asia, the world’s first art fair specialising in contemporary ink art, serving as Chairman and Director from 2015 to 2017.
2016
Calvin Hui was appointed as curator and art consultant for the MGM Chairman’s Collection by Ms. Pansy Ho.
In March, 3812 announced worldwide representation for master artist Hsiao Chin, presenting his major solo exhibition “Endless Energy” in the gallery.
2017
In April, 3812 partnered with the renowned Italian brand B&B Italia to launch the “Art in Residence” exhibition series in Hong Kong.
In August, Supported by 3812, Wang Huangsheng’s solo exhibition tour, titled “Boundary/Space,” commenced at the Minsheng Museum in Beijing and enjoyed significant success.
In November, Chloe Ho achieved a significant milestone with her solo exhibition titled “Ascendence” at the Hong Kong Arts Center. She also became the first female artist honoured by Martell Cognac as “Martell Artist of the Year.”
3812 published its inaugural edition of the art journal, Collect.
2018
In February, Tsz Shan Monastery presented a ground breaking “Buddhism and Art” programme featuring Hsiao Chin’s solo exhibition in the Universal Gate Hall.
In March, the MGM Chairman’s Collection was grandly launched.
From March to May, the China Art Museum organised “Hsiao Chin Coming Home,” attracting over 310,000 viewers and voted the most popular exhibition in Shanghai that year.
In November, 3812 premiered its first overseas gallery in St. James’s, Mayfair, London.
Mark Peaker and Calvin Hui established the Collect Art platform.
2019
In January, Calvin Hui founded INK NOW and presented the inaugural INK NOW Art Expo in Taipei, followed by the INK NOW International Symposium in collaboration with Suning Museum in Shanghai in November.
3812 and multimedia artist Victor Wong debuted the world’s first AI-generated Chinese ink painting series through Hui’s INK NOW platform, heralding the beginning of the TECH-iNK era.
In March, the Musée Guimet hosted a major exhibition titled “Les Couleurs de Zen” for Hsiao Chin, marking the first solo exhibition featuring a Chinese artist in 15 years since Sanyu in 2004.
In April, 3812 Gallery London presented the new TECH-iNK exhibition, “Far Side of the Moon,” featuring Victor Wong and his artificial intelligence robotic artist A.I. Gemini, which garnered widespread attention, including coverage by BBC News.
In September, Wang Huangsheng's first major exhibition in Hong Kong, titled "Lifelines," curated by Dr. Katie Hill, was staged at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
2020
In July, master artist Hsiao Chin celebrated his 85th anniversary with a milestone solo exhibition at the Rothko Museum in Daugavpils, Latvia (which was postponed to 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic).
3812 Gallery launched its new website, featuring e-commerce capabilities.
2021
In February, 3812 Gallery celebrated its 10th anniversary, unveiling a new 3,600 square foot gallery on Wyndham Street in Central, Hong Kong. The inaugural exhibition presented renowned British modern artist Terry Frost’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.
In March, the Song Museum presented Hsiao Chin’s first museum exhibition in Beijing, titled “The Artist as Astronaut”, curated by Phillip Dodd.
In July, Hui curated the first public exhibition of the MGM Chairman's Collection, titled “Awakening,” during the Art Macau International Art Biennale 2021, featuring the first Contemporary Art Symposium in the Greater Bay Area.
In November, 3812 announced its representation of Raymond Fung, a renowned architect and ink artist from Hong Kong, and presented the artist’s first U.K. solo exhibition, “Between Breaths” in its London gallery.
2022
In January, 3812 launched “Bespoke Collect,” a curated annex designed to cultivate a community of art collectors, promoting a lifestyle concept of "Appreciate, Acquire, Cultivate, and Share."
Calvin Hui was appointed Art Ambassador by Citi ULTIMA, marking the start of a long-term partnership. Together, 3812 and ULTIMA co-presented a curated art programme, launching an innovative and artistic gift set of Chinese New Year red packets.
In April, the thought-provoking exhibition “Looking East: St Ives Artists and Buddhism,” curated by Phillip Dodd, introduced a group of important British modern art pioneer artists and their connection to Buddhism. This exhibition was held in 3812 Gallery Hong Kong, followed by a touring exhibition in 3812 Gallery London in July.
In June, 3812 Gallery London presented the exhibition “Hsiao Chin and Punto,” marking the artist's return to the U.K. market following his first solo exhibition at Signal Gallery in 1966.
2023
In February, Raymond Fung's milestone solo retrospective exhibition was held at Hong Kong’s M+ Arts Pavilion, titled “‘Qī Shí’ Raymond Fung: A Retrospective – In Between Art and Architecture,” celebrating his remarkable seventy-year journey in both art and architecture.
In June, 3812 participated in the inaugural edition of the Treasure House Fair in London.
In July, the major solo exhibition “From Infinity to Beyond: The Art of Hsiao Chin” was staged in the MGM Cotai Theatre as a special project of the Art Macao International Art Biennale 2023. Curated by Calvin Hui, the exhibition honoured Hsiao Chin, a master of post-war abstract art. Before the exhibition, Hsiao Chin passed away in Kaohsiung on 30 June 2023, at the age of 88.
In August, Sotheby’s commemorated its 50 years in Asia by presenting a solo exhibition, "Requiem," for Liu Guofu in Hong Kong, which was a great success.
In November, 3812 launched “YA! Young Art 2023” at 3812 Gallery London, featuring nine young artists from the Royal College of Art. YA! Young Art serves as a dynamic platform dedicated to empowering talented young artists. Its curated programmes foster an ecosystem to nurture and support their growth.
In Hong Kong, 3812 presented “We Dream for that Light,” the first solo exhibition by Hong Kong young talent Thomas Ngan, marking a significant moment in 3812’s commitment to nurturing emerging artists.
2024
3812 launched ARTBID, YA!’s e-commerce feature, offering thoughtfully curated selections of artworks by young artists to engaging collectors and art enthusiasts globally.
In January, YA! debuted in Hong Kong with the exhibition "Seeking Connections" at 3812 Gallery Hong Kong.
In March, 3812 proudly announced the representation of globally renowned Paris-based Chinese master artist Ma Desheng, whose contributions to the enlightenment and modernisation of Chinese contemporary art have been significant. The addition of Ma Desheng marks an exciting new chapter for 3812 Gallery, reaffirming its mission to champion exceptional Chinese artists and foster meaningful dialogue within the international art scene.
2025
In March, 3812 Gallery Hong Kong presented “When Schiele Meets Peking Opera Figure,” marking its expansion into private advisory and secondary market services.
In May, the "The Light of Hope – Hsiao Chin 90th Anniversary Retrospective Exhibition" was organised by the Guangdong Museum of Art (Baietan Area) in Guangzhou, honouring the artist’s remarkable legacy.
In October, 3812 Gallery opened its new location at The Whiteley, a Grade II listed building transformed into a state-of-the-art luxury residential, retail, and leisure complex in Queensway. Its inaugural exhibitions featured “Woman,” Ma Desheng’s solo exhibition, and “Nature Embodied,” a private art salon by Chloe Ho.
The rebranding of 3812 featured a new logo designed by Asia’s cultural icon, designer, and multimedia artist anothermountainman (Stanley Wong).
In November, 3812 proudly collaborated with anothermountainman to present his first solo exhibition “soul and social” in England at 3812 Gallery London.
The Hsiao Chin Archives was established in Hong Kong, with an inaugural exhibition reintroducing the master artist’s Spanish Period (1956-59) in 3812 Gallery Hong Kong.
2026
In January, 3812 launched its first Artist Residency Programme, featuring Thomas Ngan’s first solo exhibition in London.
In March, 3812 proudly celebrates its 15th anniversary with the exhibition “The Ascent: 15 Years of 3812 Gallery – Anniversary Exhibition” in Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific unveiled its 80th anniversary special art-livery aircraft, BKQU, known as the “Hong Kong Spirit.” This aircraft features a stunning A.I.-generated ink painting titled “PARAMETA,” created by Victor Wong, symbolising the spirit of creativity and exploration as it soars across the skies.
In June, Liu Guofu presented his highly anticipated solo exhibition "Painting of Entropy" at the Rothko Museum, marking a significant milestone in his journey towards international recognition. This exhibition will tour to 3812 Gallery London in November.
In August, 3812 Gallery London launched “Woven Voices: Her Story in Art,” the first exhibition showcasing a curated lineup of female artists from diverse countries and cultural backgrounds.
From June to November, 3812 Gallery London will introduce a new programme titled “Visuals Meet Rhythm: Art and Music Showcase 2026,” aiming to cultivate a vibrant art and cultural community in the neighbourhood.
In October, the SOAS Gallery at the University of London, will feature a solo exhibition by Raymond Fung, while 3812 Gallery London will host a parallel exhibition for the artist.
