Albert Irvin: The Art of Water

17 January - 11 March 2023 London
Overview
3812 Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of the revelatory water colour and gouache works of the great British abstract painter Albert Irvin – whose monumental works punctuate public spaces across London and the UK.

Inspired by his hero J.M.W. Turner, Albert Irvin is best known for his huge acrylic paintings. But equally, like Turner, Irvin is a virtuoso watercolourist. This exhibition showcases work from the 1970s to 2000, from his wonderful splash work of the 70s to the characteristic vertical and horizontal brushstrokes of the 80s. These works may be modest in size but they are monumental in scale. Some were shown in a one-person exhibition at the Royal Academy during Covid and a number have been shown in exhibitions from Berlin to Los Angeles. But this show will reveal the range and brilliance of Albert Irvin’s Art of Water.
