Valéria Nascimento
Valéria Nascimento (b. 1962, Goiânia, Brazil) is a Brazilian-born artist based in London, celebrated for her intricate porcelain and ceramic sculptures that translate the natural world into delicate, architectural compositions. Growing up amid the exuberant landscapes of Brazil, she developed an early sensitivity to organic form that continues to define her practice.
Nascimento initially trained as an architect, graduating from PUC-Goiânia in 1985, where she was profoundly influenced by the work of Roberto Burle Marx and Oscar Niemeyer and by the fusion of urban landscapes and natural forms. After moving to Rio de Janeiro to pursue architecture, she was introduced to clay and became fascinated by its possibilities for expression. She subsequently dedicated herself to ceramics, developing a distinctive language in which botanical and urban structures merge into rhythmic, large-scale installations.
Her works have been exhibited internationally across galleries and art fairs in London, Paris, New York, Miami, Brussels and beyond, including solo presentations with Les Ateliers Courbet, Gallery Scène Ouverte, Woolff Gallery and Heather Gaudio Fine Art.
