When one thinks of Buddhism, it is usually associated with the East. But amazingly enough, there was a small artists' colony in St Ives in the UK in the early to mid 20th century that was influenced by the religion.

Gallery director Calvin Hui was so intrigued by the find that he has brought some of the works to 3812 Gallery for its latest exhibition, Looking East: St Ives Artists and Buddhism.

It traces the roots of Buddhism's influence on the British post-war art scene, particularly in the Cornish seaside town, through the works of British modern and contemporary abstract art...
